Pakistan is producing 25,000 plus IT professionals every year to meet the growing requirement of international and local / domestic markets.

Out of total number of such professionals, according to available data, estimated 50 per cent enter the job market.

At present, an approximately 1,50,000 IT professionals are available in Pakistan.

When contacted, an official at Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) told APP (Associated Press Of Pakistan) that the current pool of IT experts and engineers available in the country is not sufficient to meet the domestic requirements.

He said, the government has taken several steps to increase the number of IT experts and engineers to achieve targeted results.

“Our focus has been the growth of skilled human resource pool for the country’s IT industry. In this regard, we have been providing financial subsidies, technical support and partnerships to companies, as well as Pakistan educational institutions,”

The service will streamline software distribution to all faculty members and students of public sector universities in the country.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) alongwith Federal Investigation agency (FIA) has conducted a successful raid in Multan and seized three operational VoIP Gateways. According to details PTA and FIA teams through combined efforts not only traced the exact location but also carried out raid in areas of Altaf Town, Tariq Road, Multan.

One person running the setup was also apprehended during the raid. This success full raid, which was made possible because of continuous monitoring, shows the commitment and persistent efforts; PTA is putting in curbing the menace of grey traffic.

The confiscated illegal setup consists of gateways, Tellulars, Switches, Routers and number of SIMs of different operators. Moreover, the campaign against illegal telephony resulted in blocking of more than 60,000 mobile SIMs alongiwth IMEIs.

It may be added that PTA with the state of the art monitoring facility is observing the international traffic coming in to the country, round the clock. The aim of monitoring is to identify the illegal gateway exchanges and track the elements operating them. Such exchanges bring huge loss to the national exchequer as well as to the telecom sector.

Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen appreciated the joint efforts of PTA and FIA teams and also warned all those involved in the illegal telecom business to stop their activities, otherwise PTA shall take strict action against them as per the law.

PAKSAT-1R, commercially known as PAKSAT-1Replacement, manufactured exclusively for communication needs of Pakistan.

PakSat 1R is an advanced communications Geostationary satellite which was launched on 11 August 2011 for the replacement of PAKSAT-1.

This newly launched satellite will support all conventional and modern Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) applications and it will have a total of up to 30 transponders: 18 in Ku-band and 12 in C-band.

To ensure high degree of reliability / availability of the system, two (02) fully redundant Satellite Ground Control Stations (SGCS) would be established in Karachi and Lahore, one to act as the Main and the other as Backup respectively.

Long March-3B satellite carrier successfully launched PAKSAT 1R communications spacecraft for Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Lift-off occured at 16:15 GMT from Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China.

The National Command Authority (NCA) recently approved Pakistan’s Space Programme 2040 during its meeting at the Strategic Plans Division (SPD) on 14 July 2011, reports state news agency.

Earlier, the contract for the development of PAKSAT-1R was signed between Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) in October 2008 during the visit of the President of Pakistan to China.

China and Pakistan have more than 20 years of cooperation in Space Science, Technology and Applications.

PAKSAT 1R weighed 5115kg at launch and is based on DFH-4 [DongFangHong-4].

PAKSAT 1R will be brought into geosynchronous orbit in next days. After completion of in-orbit tests at 33.5 East it will be stationed on its final orbital position at 38 East.

PAKSAT 1R is planned to be in service for 15 years according to info given by China Great Wall Industry Corporation.
