Warid Telecom Celebrated Earth Hour 2011

Press Release: Warid Telecom its employees and their families celebrated Earth Hour on March 26th, 2011. These celebrations were part of Warid’s going green drive. Around the world, Earth Hour was embraced by the global community, transcending race, culture, age and economics as individuals took leadership in their communities in the pursuit of a cleaner and safer planet.

While commenting on Warid’s participation in the event Mr. Muneer Farooqui, Chief Executive Officer Warid Telecom said “Our participation in Earth Hour this year shows our commitment towards a great concern about the health of the living resources on which we all depend. Earth hour is a way to renew our commitment to living a more sustainable lifestyle and bring local attention to this important global issue.”

The green company, Warid Telecom has taken multiple IT/Engineering green initiatives in the past to play its role for environment friendly greener planet. Warid commenced a project of implementing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution based on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R-2 Hyper-V. With this project, Warid Telecom taken a leap forward in carbon emissions, honoring its part in keeping the planet greener thus takes another initiative for environment friendly green technology. Total Power Consumption is reduced by 180% with annual saving of 215,280 KW/Y from power and Total Air Conditioning Saving per Year: 160,030 KW/Y, also Carbon Emission Saving per Year: of 581730 Pound.

To protect environment by introducing the environment friendly or green energy for mobile in Pakistan, Warid is also the first cellular company to introduce/deploy solar powered BTS in the country. The non-hybrid site is 100% powered on solar energy thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution, both of which are unfriendly to the environment. The solution also reduces pressure on Pakistan's overall energy supply which further benefits the environment.
