The north eastern state of Assam in India has been hit with a rare case of exploding mobile handsets, which the locals have termed ‘bombile.’
Mobile handsets exploding is not a new phenomenon, but about 30 different mobile phones suddenly exploding within a week when users answer a call with the incoming number highlighted in red colour is rare, and requires a scientific explanation.
Victims Hospitalized: More than 20 people have been admitted to various hospitals in Assam during the past one week, with victims complaining of nausea and a splitting headache, while a few of them have been reported to have suffered mild bruises. Although nearly 10 victims have lodged a police complaint, law enforcers are perplexed and do no not know whom to file a case against in these bizarre cases.
Big Mobile Brands Exploding: According to the locals is not just the low-cost Chinese handsets that have exploded, but even those of reputed brands makers including, Nokia, Samsung, as well as LG and Motorola.
Scientific Reason Demanded: This rare incident has even caught the attention of Assam’s chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who has wisely ordered a scientific probe to find out whether the cases are genuine or just rumour mongering. Reliance Telecom Ltd has forwarded the problem to its head office for an internal investigation since they could not come up with a logical explanation.
Weak Signals: The only logical explanation for the mobile explosion according to a telecom expert is that, “There is a remote possibility of the battery exploding if the user makes or receives a call in an area where signals are weak, which makes the mobile handset draw full power from the battery to connect the call. During this process, there are chances that the battery, if not of a good quality make, could explode due to overheating. Mobile phone operators are fully aware of this problem, but will not admit it since they have not installed sufficient towers, which comes at a huge investment.”
