NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) has launched a mobile SMS service in collaboration with the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) in order to determine the recipients of the Watan Card and to devise a complaints lodging mechanism.
Tariq Malik, NADRA Deputy Chairman said, “We have people living in neighboring areas complaining that one of them is being declared as a beneficiary and the other is being deprived by the provincial government. This service will register the complaint, and allow us to address and resolve the issue(s) with local authorities.”
Service to Curtail Chaos: SMS service would handle recurring grievances pertaining to Watan Card issuance by allowing complainants to message a designated short code. The SMS service would also help curtail the chaos at the card centers, since the checking of the eligibility of the applicant for the Watan Card will be simplified.
Procedure: The person will send his/her computerised national identity card (CNIC) number to the designated short code 9888. In response, a text message will be sent from the NADRA central server confirming the particular CNIC’s existence in the beneficiary list.
