The telecommunication industry of Pakistan suffered broad and deep damages to infrastructure due to the floods of 2010. The current damage assessment estimates a loss of approximately Rs.4148 Million, just from land line and cellular operators, according to an estimate by the government. This figure represents the sites which are totally damaged and are non-operational. However, the cost incurred to repair/recover the damaged sites have not been included. The actual damage cost will be considerably higher than this number.This disaster has left a mark on the already struggling telecom industry of Pakistan. Going forward, the industry cannot afford to ignore catastrophic events like these. We need to take natural disasters into account and plan for them.

- Erosion of boundary walls and tower bases.
- Equipment damage due to water accumulation inside the site.(BSS, Trx, Power etc)
- Feeder cables damage due to settlement of cable bridge foundation support.
- Fiber cable Cuts on backbone and local fibers cables.
- Microwave Backhaul disruption
- Short circuits and power system damage including Generator damage
- In rare cases tower foundation settlement issues have occurred.
