Intel Pakistan marked the end of its national science competition by announcing the winners of the Intel National Science Fair, who will represent Pakistan at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2011 to be held in Los Angeles, California, USA.
The winners of this science fair included Fatima Sohail from Defence Authority Model High School for her project ‘Generation of electricity with the help of vertical air through a modified very economical wind mill and Habibullah Hal Mohammed from Pak Turk International School & College Lahore for his project ‘Organic Battery’. The group winners are Ambreen Bibi and Mehwish Ghafoor from FG College for Women, Islamabad for their project ‘Degradation of environmental pollutants with Nanocomposites’.
Widely attended by youth from all across Pakistan, the National Science Fair showcased more than 80 science projects submitted by young scientists from all across the country who qualified for a place in the National Science Fair after rigorous competition at district and provincial levels.
“The government of Pakistan aims to improve quality of education by promoting initiatives in areas of science and technology,” said Federal Minister of Education Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali who attended the event as the chief guest.
“Today, globalisation and technological change have created a new global economy, powered by technology, fueled by information and driven by information. Keeping this mantra in mind, we wholeheartedly support the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair which provides greater avenues for interaction between students and their peers on a global platform,” the minister said.
It is encouraging to note that each year more schools and students are participating in the Intel Science Fairs, with increased drive, to excel in the areas of science and research, even from the scattered and rural populations of the country,” said Intel Pakistan country manager Naveed Siraj. “Intel is grateful to the Ministry of Education for its support and cooperation with this initiative.”
The National Science Fair, organises every year by Intel Pakistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is part of Intel’s efforts to contribute to science education reform in Pakistan.
