PEMRA cracks down on illegal cable TV networks

PEMRA News
In a recent crackdown against illegal cable TV operators in Punjab and Islamabad, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA’s) enforcement teams closed about fifteen cable TV networks in Okara and Islamabad. These cable TV networks were running illegally without obtaining licences from the authority. There were numerous complaints of relaying illegal channels by these cable TV operators.

It is pertinent to mention here that establishing a cable TV network in Pakistan is a licensable activity under Section 19 (2) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 and the Rules and Regulations made there under. Any violation in this context is a cognisable offence under the pertinent laws.
