The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) has finally helped in resolving the expansion-related issues of telecommunication companies in Punjab.

The major telecom companies in Pakistan, including Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid and Zong seeked the board’s help, as they were only allowed to install Base Transmission Service (BTS) towers in commercial areas which was hindering expansion to rural and industrial areas. Thus. a meeting of the representatives of the telecommunication companies was arranged with the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Shabaz Sharif, in which it was decided that the telecoms would be allowed to install Base Transmission Service (BTS) towers in agriculture and industrial areas as well. The telecom companies are likely to install 800 to 1,100 BTS towers in the current fiscal year, which could lead to an investment of up to $250 million.
