Google’s Andy Rubin recently announced that Honeycomb is due “next year” with support for tablets at an event called ‘D: Dive Into Mobile’.
Andy demoed the new version of the OS on a Motorola prototype tablet Tegra 2, and it was very different, and highly customized — although there were still grids of icons, the mobile applications were more “desktop” in flavor, and the traditional Android buttons weren’t present.
Upcoming Android OS 3.0 Honeycomb: After releasing the latest version of its Android OS, the Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread, Google has also shown off its next year version of the Android OS, the 3.0 Honeycomb, which will support both tablets and smartphones. The latest mobile Android OS 3.0 Honeycomb version has been previewed by Andy Rubin, who displayed this OS running on Motorola’s prototype tablet Tegra 2.
Honeycomb VS. Gingerbread: This upcoming version of the Android OS has some interesting differences when compared to the available Android 2.3. The most noticeable difference is the lack of traditional Android buttons. Andy Rubin has also showed Google’s latest Google Maps for Mobile 5.0 app. According to Andy Rubin, the new Android OS 3.0 Honeycomb should come “sometime next year”.
