Those using Gmail accounts recently experienced a new feature added to their chat application for directly calling phones through VoIP technology. Once you open your browser you will be prompted to download a voice plug-in to enable direct calling to any phone and even landlines. This has been possible for Google after the acquisition of Gizmo 5.

Apparently this service is limited for US and Canada only and is free for limited time duration. People have experienced a better voice quality as compared to exiting VoIP platforms. After downloading the plug-in you can call anywhere in US and Canada merely with a microphone and a PC. The interface is simple with a dial button at th bottom of your application. This feature is incorporated with your Google address book. The unique feature is calling to landline phones through your Gmail account.

Apparently Google is offering the minimum rates among its other competitors like Skype and Yahoo and the firm does not plan to raise rates till 2010.

Google blog says:"We've been testing this feature internally and have found it to be useful in a lot of situations, ranging from making a quick call to a restaurant to placing a call when you're in an area with bad reception."

We expect Google to launch these features in other regions so that all can also enjoy such amazing features soon.
